PANJIM & THE CHURCHES OF OLD GOA
Timings: 09:00 to 17:00 hours
Cruise past the Dr. Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary and the islands of Chorao and Divar on your way to Old Goa. Life on these islands has remained unchanged for many years and locals have resisted bridges in an attempt to conserve their natural and cultural heritage.
You disembark the Solita at the Old Goa jetty. It is a short walk up the hill to the churches of the St. Cathedral, Basilica of Bom Jesus and the St. Francis Church, outstanding monuments to the legacy left behind by the Portuguese.
Back on the Solita, you’ll cruise downstream past Ribander and the causeway till you reach the waterfront of Panjim. Here the Mandovi is a hub of activity with iron-ore barges, fishing boats, ferries, cruises, and floating casinos vying for space.
You get off at Panjim, the smallest and most pleasant of state capitals. You will have lunch in a small restaurant in the Latin quarter of Fontainhas followed by a walk around the old part of town.
